At the time it happened I don't think I could have 'stood up' to Edna more than I did, simply because I was a very young, inexperienced teacher and she was not. I did the best I could in the circumstances (and wrote a nasty book about her afterwards!), so I don't regret, as it would be regretting the fact I was young and inexperienced - two things I couldn't do anything about. However, there is no doubt I would have been considerably more formidable a few years later!!
